Turkey's domain registry moved to TRABIS (managed by BTK) in 2022 and registration became much simpler. Here is what you need to know.

Who manages .tr domains?

.tr domains are managed by TRABIS, the .tr Network Information System operated under the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK). Registrations are made through accredited registrars.

Which extensions need no documents?

The most common extensions can be registered without documents on a first-come, first-served basis: .com.tr, .net.tr, .org.tr, .gen.tr, .web.tr, .biz.tr, .info.tr and a few others. Some extensions such as .av.tr, .dr.tr, .edu.tr, .k12.tr, .bel.tr and .gov.tr still require proof of eligibility.

What details are required?

• Turkish citizens: name and T.C. identity number.
• Companies: company title and tax details.
• Foreign registrants: full name, address and contact details.

Use correct details — TRABIS may verify them and incorrect data can lead to suspension.

How long can I register for?

.tr domains can be registered for 1 to 5 years and renewed at any time before expiry.

Tips

• If your brand matters, register both brand.com and brand.com.tr.
• Turn on auto-renew — .tr names that expire are released quickly.
• Check the current rules at nic.tr for special extensions.
